Welcome to the UNESCO ASPnet in Japan!

The ASPnet (UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network) work in support of peace and international cooperation to achieve the ideals set forth in the UNESCO Charter.

As of January 2010, more than 8,500 educational institutions in 179 member states are participating in the ASPnet. Of these there are 207 pre-schools, elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools and teacher training colleges and universities from Japan. The Japanese government provides support for various activities designed to promote ESD (Education for Sustainable Development), primarily at UNESCO Associated Schools.

Utilizing this global network, UNESCO Associated Schools engage in exchanges between students and teachers at schools around the world to share information and experiences. The aim is to develop and refine new educational content and methods to prepare young people to deal with various global issues.

The purpose of this website is to provide information on schools in Japan participating in the ASPnet as well as educational materials and case studies on specific ESD activities that have been implemented in classes. Information will also be provided on opportunities for teachers and administrators at member schools to participate in training programmes and exchanges, and this website is SNS for members to share ideas and information, so that even more schools can actively participate in the ASPnet activities.

A Guide to Developing and Using ESD Materials
